HARDWOOD FLOOR REFINISHING

Restoring your hardwood floors to their former beauty is an arduous process, which involves many years of experience to master.  Martin's Custom Flooring has done just that, and we are here to help you through the process --with over 35 years of knowledge and expertise in refinishing and installation. We take pride in this fact, and will work with you from start to finish, ensuring your satisfaction.

Refinishing will bring much needed life to dull, scratched, and discolored hardwood floors.  In doing so, you have an opportunity to update the color by choosing from a vast array of grey and white-washed stains, more traditional colors, or simply go natural. We will work with you to determine which option will best suit your home, and offer stain sample boards to give you a good idea what the final floor color may look like. It may be reassuring to know that we use dust containment systems, which help to mitigate dust particles, offering peace of mind for our customers.

Because each customer has a unique flooring situation, we offer an extensive selection of finishes; including oil-based polyurethane, water-based polyurethane, and wax finishes -- just to name a few.  Many of our customers prefer water-based polyurethane due to the fact that it is considered low VOC, dries very quickly, and is not dramatically affected by humidity; allowing you to move back into your home more quickly as compared to oil based polyurethane. It is also touted to be more durable then oil base polyurethane, as it is a catalyzed finish.  If you are looking to match an existing oil theme throughout your home, it may be prudent to finish with oil poly; allowing for more continuity of color. As far as sheen levels, there are many to choose from; matt, satin, semi-gloss, and gloss -- with matt showing less wear and tear and allowing the woods natural beauty to shine through.

Please bear in mind that a total home refinish will require you to stay elsewhere for a period of time. If certain areas are selectively sanded, it may be possible for you to remain in your home, however fumes and dry times may make it difficult. We will do our absolute best to work with you if relocation is not an option. Our goal is to make the process of refinishing your floors as painless as possible.

Hurricane damage is a huge concern here in North Carolina. Each year we refinish a number of wood floors that have been seriously damaged by water.  Oftentimes, the majority of floors are salvageable, however repairs are usually necessary.  We can help you to determine the extent of the damage, and work hand in hand with the insurance provider to get you back in your home, and your floors looking beautiful once again.
